What you need
TreatPath is fully cloud-based — no installation required. Here's all you need to get started.
A computer with Google Chrome
Mac, Windows, or Chromebook. The staff planner runs at app.gettreatpath.com/planner in Google Chrome — TreatPath is built and tested for Chrome specifically. Safari, Firefox and Edge are not supported and may cause problems, particularly with capture-from-screen. No installation needed.
iPad with Safari or Chrome
Any iPad running iOS 14 or later. 10" screen recommended. Just needs an internet connection — no app download, no office WiFi requirement.
Internet connection
Both the office computer and iPad just need internet access — they don't need to be on the internet connection. Office WiFi, cellular, or a hotspot all work.
TreatPath account
Create a free account at gettreatpath.com. All AI features — OCR, procedure translation, insights — are included in your subscription. No separate API key needed.
Create your account
TreatPath is fully cloud-based — no download, no installation. Everything runs in Google Chrome on the staff computer.
Sign up at gettreatpath.com
Go to gettreatpath.com and click Log in → Create account. Enter your practice name, email, and a password.
Activate your office
Two ways in. Subscribe from the TreatPath Subscription card ($299.99/month, card payment, live the moment it clears), or enter an access code from the TreatPath team if you're trialing. Either way you'll tick the box accepting the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy on behalf of your practice.
Open the staff planner and create your administrator
Click Open staff planner in the portal — or go directly to app.gettreatpath.com/planner in Chrome and log in with your TreatPath credentials. The first time in, TreatPath asks you to create your practice's administrator — usually the doctor or office manager — with a personal 6-digit PIN. After that, each team member the admin adds signs in by tapping their name and entering their own PIN. Twenty minutes of inactivity locks back to the PIN screen; forgotten PINs are reset by the admin, so nobody is ever locked out.
Setting up the iPad
The patient view runs in Safari or Chrome on the iPad — no app download required. The iPad just needs internet access.
Find your office patient URL
In the portal under Launch TreatPath, you'll see your office-specific patient URL — something like app.gettreatpath.com/patient?office=ABC. This URL is unique to your practice.
Open it in Safari on the iPad
Type your patient URL into Safari on the iPad. The TreatPath code entry screen will appear. This is what patients see when they're handed the iPad.
Add to home screen
In Safari, tap the Share button → Add to Home Screen. Name it "TreatPath" and tap Add. This creates a full-screen icon — no browser UI, no address bar.
Presenting your first plan
Enter patient info
In the TreatPath staff planner, the patient's first and last name fill in automatically from the plan you capture (or type them). TreatPath assigns each plan its own unique 6-digit code, shown when the plan is ready to present. A chart number is optional; TreatPath does not use or store date of birth.
Capture the treatment plan
Have the plan open in your practice software (it can sit behind Chrome — just not minimized). Click Capture from screen; in Chrome's Choose what to share dialog pick the Window tab and click your practice software's window, then Share. TreatPath takes one still picture of that window — nothing is recorded — and you drag a box around the plan's table. It reads the procedures in 10–40 seconds. First time on a Mac: allow Screen Recording for Chrome in System Settings → Privacy & Security, then reopen Chrome.
Review and sort procedures
TreatPath automatically sorts procedures into three tiers. Review the placement and drag any procedures to adjust. Edit names or costs if needed.
Add insurance (optional)
Enter a flat insurance amount, or expand Add detailed insurance breakdown to enter preventive/basic/major percentages and annual maximum for precise per-procedure calculations.
Select behavioral style (optional)
Under Patient view style, select the DISC style that matches the patient's intake form answers — the iPad view adapts to it. Leave it unselected to use the standard view. See the Behavioral Assessment Guide for scoring instructions.
Send to iPad
Click Send to iPad. Hand the iPad to the patient. They review their options, customize if desired, and sign. You'll see the signed plan appear in the dashboard instantly.
Using the staff dashboard
The dashboard is accessible at http://app.gettreatpath.com/dashboard (or via the link in the TreatPath app). It shows all signed treatment plans in real time.
Unread indicators
New signed plans appear with a blue left border and bold name. They auto-mark as read when you click them.
Search and filter
Search by patient name. Filter by All, Unread, or Archived. Use bulk selection for batch actions.
Archiving
Archive signed plans whenever you like — they remain fully accessible, just out of the main view. Nothing archives automatically.
Print summaries
Click any plan → click Print to print a full plan summary including procedures, totals, and patient signature.
Recommended daily routine
Morning — start TreatPath
Open app.gettreatpath.com/planner in Google Chrome (not Safari or Edge). Log in if needed — you'll usually stay logged in automatically. The iPad stays bookmarked and ready. No server to start, nothing to configure.
Before each appointment
Score the patient's intake form answers and note their DISC style. Pull up TreatPath on the workstation before the patient is seated.
After diagnosis
Capture the treatment plan from your PMS, review procedures, add insurance, select behavioral style, and send to iPad — typically under 2 minutes.
End of day
Review the dashboard for any unread signed plans. Close TreatPath when the office closes. Archive anything you're finished with — it stays restorable.
Common issues
See the FAQ troubleshooting section for detailed solutions. Quick reference below.
iPad can't connect
Check that the iPad has internet access and is opening the correct patient URL from your portal. The URL never changes — it's always app.gettreatpath.com/patient?office=YOUR_PREFIX.
OCR not reading procedures
Make sure the capture includes every row of the treatment plan table, and that you shared the practice software's window (or the monitor it's on) — not "Chrome Tab", which only sees Chrome. $0 seat/delivery rows and lab fees aren't lost: they're folded into the crown or implant they belong to.
Plan not showing in dashboard
Check the Archived filter. Refresh the dashboard. Confirm the patient completed and signed the plan on the iPad.
